Chess Club -VIRTUAL

Primary Contact:

Cheri Howe; Student Coach: Anish Valluri, MSA high school student

About this Activity:

Chess Club is open to all MSA students, grades 6 through 12, at all skill levels -- from those students who want to learn the basics of the game and beginner tactics to the more advanced players who want to work on advanced opening and strategies. Due to distance learning, Chess Club will play games online through, and communicate with each other through Parents and students will need to read the attached waiver for more information regarding these online tools, which are not connected to MSA. The waiver will need to be signed by both a parent and student before joining Chess Club. Should there not be enough students for Chess Club to start as an online club during the first semester, students will be notified, and kept informed should it be able to start up later in the school year. Chess Club is open to a minimum of 12 club members in order for the club to be offered. Online meetings will be held on Wednesdays, from 8:00-9:00, once a week, tentatively starting September 16. Attendance is tracked through Discord where students will be required to record their attendance records. Members will play and learn from online chess games, but if enough students want to learn about a specific topic, then a lesson could be set up and streamed through Discord for students to watch the lesson being conducted. If you are interested in joining the club, here is the Discord Link to the server:
