Academics Committee
Committee Purpose: Individual teachers and departments create the curriculum taught at MSA. This committee approves any changes to the curriculum. Significant changes to the curriculum are approved by the BOD. The Academics Committee defines and redefines what academic excellence means for the school. The committee works with the Director and department heads to set annual academic achievement goals which are presented and approved by the BOD. This committee also works with the Director to devise clear and consistent ways to measure progress toward academic achievement goals
Committee Leadership: Chair or Co-Chairs, with support from BOD Members on the committee (if a BOD member is not the Chair or Co-Chair).
Works with/gets information from: Information for this committee comes from the BOD, Director, Guidance Counselor, teachers, and parents. Additionally, state law and MSA policies regulate a majority of what the committee can and cannot do and its role in school governance.
Committee Members: The committee includes the Director, all MSA department chairs, BOD member (as chair), Academic Guidance Counselor, and parents and/or community members.
Meetings - when/how often held: Monthly
Chair's responsibilities: The Chair needs to plan, run and report the findings of the committee.
Committee members’ responsibilities: Members need to attend meetings and volunteer for specific tasks as needed.
