Preparing For Distance Learning

Information on this page will help ensure that:

  • You can access distance learning platforms, and other MSA communications and information.
  • You have information on internet access options
  • You have access to technology training videos and resources to get technology related help.

Please continue to watch the MSA website and email for additional information on preparing for distance learning.

User Accounts

Students and Parents should make sure they have their username and password for their various platforms. For students, this means the login for their Chromebook/laptop, Skyward, the MSA website, and Google account. For parents, this is the login for the MSA website and Skyward. If you have lost your username or password, please contact Justin Gehring by emailing justin@jrcorps.com or by phone: 651-208-8797

Internet Access

If you are having trouble getting access to the internet for use with e-learning at home, there are a number of resources that have become available to assist.

We will post additional resources here as they become available.

Computer Hardware

Your child should have a working Chromebook or laptop issued to them by the school. If for some reason you do not currently have this device, or this device has stopped working, please contact justin@jrcorps.com to make arrangements.

Getting Familiar With Common Software Platforms

MSA will be making use of many different web based technologies as we move forward. To assist with this, we have created some training videos to help parents and students get started with some of the new platforms we'll be using. Click a link below to watch these trainings.

Things to be Familiar With

Become familiar with:

  1. accessing your MSA email and the MSA web portal.
  2. accessing the webpages your student’s teachers provide.
  3. launching into a Zoom meeting (see link above).
  4. receiving and posting assignments through Google classroom (see link above).

Prepare Your Environment and Schedule

  • Spend some time preparing a learning area. Make a space just for your student to help you stay focused.

  • Understand how attendance will work. Decide when your student will contact their advisory teacher each day for attendance. Remember this must be done by 1 pm.

Troubleshooting Common Computer Problems

Connection Issues/Bandwidth Issues: When there are more people at home and using your internet, you may see a strain on the speed of your home internet connection. While we are not able to provide direct support to families with home devices and internet issues, we can offer these helpful suggestions:

  • An appropriate first response to an error with a device is do a full reboot of the device.
  • Disable your video when attending a live class, as this will reduce your bandwidth consumption.
  • Make sure devices are fully charged and plugged in.
  • When WiFi enabled electronics (cell phone, tablet, etc.) are not immediately in use, turn them off. This will help reduce Wi-Fi congestion.
  • During “academic” time, minimize media (Netflix, YouTube, Spotify) streaming to allow for the full use of internet bandwidth.
