2018-19 Academic Triathlon Season

Academic Triathlon

It is a fun, exciting program that tests creativity, teamwork, and academic skills of the participants.  Students will create and perform skits, compete in creativity and brain-teaser games as a team, and answer trivia questions.

There are 3 Tri’s:

  • Mindsprint

    • These are short, creative-thinking activities that each team does.  Some examples include crossword games similar to Scrabble, brainstorming games, or making the best paper airplane with given supplies.  They all test a team’s cohesion, creativity, and participation skills.

  • P.A.R.T.Y. in the Box

    • During the P.A.R.T.Y. Prep time in the meet, teams get the chance to create a skit that fulfills the given prompt.  The teams also get a box full of materials to make their props with. At the end of the night, the teams present their skits in front of the parent audience, as well as the judges.

  • Face-offs

    • Written: This is the first portion of the meet.  Students will complete a trivia worksheet with their team for an 8-minute time period. Questions are a large variety of topics that include health, science, math, English, popular fiction, current events, and much more.

    • Oral: This is the section of the meet where teams compete head-to-head against other teams in a trivia quiz-like session.  Your team competes against two other teams at the meet and you try to answer trivia questions the fastest, and most correct.  Topics are similar to those of the Written Face-Off.
