FAFSA-Quick Guide to Financial Aid

FAFSA online:  FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  This is the form that provides information to colleges to determine a student's eleigibilty for grants, work study, loans and some need-based scholarships.  Families must complete their taxes for the previous year before completing this form.  The application is free. 

FAFSA4caster: Provides some basic information and will estimate your eligibility for federal student aid. Your estimate will be shown in the "College Cost Worksheet" where you can also provide estimated amounts of other student aid and savings that can go towards your college education.

Federal Student Aid: This is a site sponsored by the US Department of Education.  It has lots of information about education after high school, including information on paying for college.

Local Scholarships

Tozier Scholarship This is available to all MSA students every year and we have had several students awarded this scholarship.  Applications are usually available online by January  and are due to the office by February 15th.  Watch for emails about this due date.  This is one of two local scholarships that requires applications be be submitted from the school as a group.

Woodbury VFW (Cans for College) -  The Woodbury VFW Post 9024 offers two $1,000 scholarships available for current high school seniors in Woodbury, who are planning to pursue post-secondary education.  Check out their website, or, watch for e-mails about this around February of each year.  They are due to the office by April 1st.).  

Woodbury Lions Club   Several students have won this scholarship ($1,500 for two years) Check out their website for details.  Their applications are usually due at the end of January each year. 

Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce Scholarships  are available to students who either reside in the cities of Cottage Grove, Newport or St. Paul Park.  Applications are usualyl accepted March-April.  Students are selected based on their response to a particular question (usually centered around community assistance or improvement).  They also look at participation and leadership in school and community, work experience, and academic achievement.

Woodbury Chamber of Commerce Scholarships are available for students who reside in Woodbury. Applications are usualyl accepted March-April for both chambers.  Students are selected based on their response to a particular qustion (usually centered around community assistance or improvement).  They also look at participation and leadership in school and community, work experience, and academic achievement.

*Mrs. Graveen will also send out any Scholarship Information and Opportunities that she receives through email as soon as she receives them.

FastWeb is a free online resource that works to match strengths, interests and skills with available scholarships.

Scholarship America is an online scholarship database that manages thousands of scholarship programs. Many are only open to employees of the sponsoring company or their families, but some are available to students in the general public.

CollegeBoard Scholarship Search  is an online tool sponsored by the College Board (parent group of Advanced Placement.)  According to their website, "Find scholarships, other financial aid and internships from more than 2,200 programs, totaling nearly $6 billion."
