College Planning

It is important to plan for college and it is important to make sure that you are prepared and ready to submit those college applications.  

Many colleges will ask for different informaiton and materials from you in order to make their acceptance decisions.  

Materials that colleges often request:

  • Application (often online)
  • Letters of recommendation (2-3)
  • Official transcripts
  • Essays
  • Counselor recommendations
  • Personal statements/essays

It is important that you plan and prepare these materials ahead of time to ensure you beat those application deadlines.

Helpful College Application/Planning Websites undergraduate college admission application tool that allows students to apply to over 630 colleges within one website portal.  While you will complete general information about yourself that will be seen by all of the colleges or universities you are applying to within the commonapp, each college or university may require additional informaiton, such as an essay or a counselor recommendation.  After you complete your portion and submit your college applications through the commonapp, Mrs. Graveen will recieve an email to access your application and complete the rest of your application, which includes uploading your official high school transcript as well as any other academic information.    

CTCL: non-profit organization dedicated to advancing and supporting the college search process. They work in partnership with liberal arts colleges and universities that have shown to support student success and foster the whole-student approach to further education.  

BigFuture: An online college and career planning resource that is provided through the Collegeboard.  Use this site to find answers to general college questions, research colleges and explore career interests. use this site to research colleges and universities and search for options that best fit what you are looking for in a college or university.

Tools To Prepare You For College Applications: 

Letters of Recommendation: 

Colleges often ask for letters of recommendation from people who know you well. These letters should be written by someone who can describe your skills, accomplishments and personality such as a teacher, coach, advisor or counselor. Fill out the form and provide a copy to each person that will be writing a letter of recommendation for you.  Providing your recommenders as well as Mrs. Graveen with a strong summary of your skills, leadership experiences and any additional accomplishmnets allows them to write a strong letter of recommendation for you.
