Jerry Shelton
Director of Performing Arts
Jerry Shelton is a conductor, music educator, free-lance musician, and composer/arranger. He has conducted bands, choirs, orchestras, and jazz ensembles throughout the United States and Great Britain. He has performed in the bands of Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Tommy Dorsey (led by Warren Covington), and the Lennon Sisters. He has performed on occasion with the Minnesota Orchestra and was the conductor of the MN Youth Symphony on the field for the 1992 Super Bowl. He remains an active performer with his own fusion band, rennieworks; the jazz septet, Yo Jimbo; and the jazz quintet, BlueMood. Mr. Shelton’s numerous recordings available include: From the Mouths of Babes (written, recorded, and produced with a Breck School, Minneapolis jazz group, currently out of print); model train set (rennieworks); Yo Jimbo Jazz (Yo Jimbo); BlueMood (BlueMood); and numerous recordings with the Breck School and the Math and Science Academy instrumental and vocal performing ensembles. He has premiered works for wind ensemble and jazz ensemble/dance in the United States and Great Britain. His triptych, Steptoe Glancing, was premiered in London in 1988.
