Hello, I am Mrs. Otteson.  I am very happy to be here for my first year at the Math and Science Academy, it is a wonderful place to be.

 I have been a teacher since 1995 and have worked teaching art to all grade levels from kindergarten through college.

Before becoming a teacher I worked in the art and design industry in a variety of different capacities.  I spent time as a freelance designer and book illustrator.  I have shown my work in galleries and have done commissioned art and portraits. I also was a co-owner of a small business that designed handpainted fabrics and wallpaper for the interior design trade.  One of my duties was to train artists to create the patterns the company produced.  I enjoyed teaching, and this was to be my transition into a teaching career.   I LOVE MAKING STUFF, and teaching people not to be afraid of having fun making art.

I am married; my husband and I share our home with two daughters, two dogs, a cat and a rat.  We have remodeled every single darn house we have lived in, while continuing to live in them. This is something I would not reccommend if you have any dust allergies, OCD issues, or your husband is not a remodeler.   (The rat is a pet and not my choice to have, but he is kid of cute - minus the tail.)  Now to more important things:

After school hours:

SAMS CLUB  Mondays, some Thursdays.  Please check the schedule on my website for specific dates.   Students may use the classroom while the art club is in session if they need to finish any classwork.

Check the white board each week for other days I will be available for after school open studio.
